Luka Dončić on fame in Los Angeles: “It’s more exhausting than truly joyful”

LA Lakers star Luka Dončić admitted that the intense attention from the media and fans in Los Angeles often weighs on him. The Slovenian says he has only ever wanted to play basketball, with fame coming as an unavoidable part of the package.

The Slovenian playmaker spoke openly about life in the spotlight in the Californian metropolis. “Obviously, to some extent I’ve got used to it, but it’s still strange. Before, everything around me was on a much smaller scale, while in Los Angeles it’s completely different, everything here is huge. I’d say that when you’re this popular, it’s more exhausting than truly satisfying,” Dončić said.

Asked whether his celebrity status makes him uncomfortable, he replied with a smile: “Somewhat, yes, I’d put it that way... Yes, definitely. But my wish has always been just to play basketball, and fame is something that comes as an unavoidable part of that package.”
