Ankle injury rules Isaiah Stewart out of the start of the NBA season

Memphis Grizzlies center Isaiah Stewart will miss the start of the NBA regular season with a left ankle injury. The team says he will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

According to Reuters, the 25-year-old suffered the injury in the first quarter of Memphis’s preseason opener against the Atlanta Hawks. As the Grizzlies open the season at home against the Utah Jazz on 21 October, Stewart will not be ready for that game. Depending on his recovery, however, he could return for the second game of the season, away at the Golden State Warriors on 23 October.

Memphis acquired Stewart and the remainder of his four-year, $60 million contract in a trade with the Detroit Pistons. He is earning $15 million this season and has a $15 million option for 2027-28.

Last season, Stewart averaged 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, a career-high 1.6 blocks and 22.7 minutes in 58 games, including 13 starts.
