Serena done with matches for this year and looking ahead to 2027
Serena Williams will not play any more tournaments before the end of 2026, following her comebacks at Wimbledon and the US Open this summer. The 45-year-old is considering only a handful of appearances in 2027, without having announced a definitive retirement.
Her plans for next season remain tentative, but her focus has clearly shifted away from the court. Family and raising her two daughters remain her top priority, and any trips to tournaments, including the Australian Open, which she has won seven times, depend on the school year and her children’s commitments.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion is also actively developing her investment business through Serena Ventures, which backs start-ups in consumer products, healthcare and financial services. Its portfolio includes Kopi Kenangan, beauty brand WYN Beauty and sports clubs such as Angel City FC.
Williams made the comments at the launch of her new Barbie doll from Mattel’s Signature series, dedicated to the International Day of the Girl. It recreates her iconic green and white outfit from the 2005 Australian Open, where she won her seventh Grand Slam title. It is her second Barbie honour of 2026, after a doll in a business suit in March celebrating her career as an entrepreneur and investor. Williams said that, as a mother of girls, it is important to her that the younger generation sees opportunities without limits.

Novak Djokovic lost 6-4, 6-3 to Hubert Hurkacz in the second round of the Shanghai Masters and sits ninth in the Race to Turin. With Jannik Sinner out for the rest of the season, that position would currently be enough for a place in Turin, but Alex de Minaur is just 150 points behind.
