Paris Olympic champion wins the title in Beijing
Zheng Qinwen became the first Chinese player to win the WTA 1000 title in Beijing, beating Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-4 in the final. It is her first WTA 1000 title and her first trophy of the year.
The Paris 2024 Olympic champion overcame fourth seed and Roland Garros champion Andreeva in one hour and 43 minutes at the $9.4 million event.
Zheng, who missed much of last year and the start of 2026 with a right elbow injury, looked in excellent form, using her powerful forehand to control the rallies. “The feeling of winning here in Beijing is incredible... it was one of my dreams,” said the 24-year-old, whose campaign here last year ended in disappointment when she was forced to retire after aggravating her injury.
After the pair exchanged early breaks, world No. 5 Andreeva led 5-4 and came close to a decisive break, but Zheng saved three break points to level at 5-5 and then broke to take the first set. Andreeva saved three break points at 4-4 in the second set, but Zheng broke again and sealed the title with an ace in the following game.
Thanks to the triumph, Zheng rises from 54th to 23rd in the WTA rankings.

Novak Djokovic lost 6-4, 6-3 to Hubert Hurkacz in the second round of the Shanghai Masters and sits ninth in the Race to Turin. With Jannik Sinner out for the rest of the season, that position would currently be enough for a place in Turin, but Alex de Minaur is just 150 points behind.
