Bruno Fernandes could not hide his disappointment after another Man United setback
Bruno Fernandes was among the first players to leave Old Trafford after Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham, walking past fans waiting for autographs. United have just one win in their first six league games and sit 13th in the Premier League.
Bruno Fernandes could not hide his disappointment after Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham at Old Trafford, and the captain’s behaviour after the final whistle sparked comments among the Red Devils’ fans. According to The Sun, the Portuguese midfielder was among the first players to leave the stadium, walking past the waiting supporters who usually hope to get an autograph or a photo with the players. Some fans even suggested that Fernandes had lost faith in the team, although his reaction could also be explained by his huge disappointment at the missed victory.
The United captain had a difficult game against Roberto De Zerbi’s side. According to statistics cited by the English outlet, it took Fernandes 23 minutes to complete his first successful pass of the match. In one of the tensest moments of the second half, when players from both teams gathered near the touchline after a clash between Rodrigo Bentancur and Luke Shaw, the Portuguese stayed out of the row and sat apart from the other players. Bentancur was eventually sent off, leaving the Red Devils with an extra man on the pitch, but they still failed to win, despite having taken the lead five minutes earlier.
Bryan Mbeumo gave the hosts the lead in the 73rd minute, but Tottenham snatched a point with a Dominic Solanke goal in the second minute of stoppage time. Manchester United are left with just one win in their first six league games and sit only 13th in the table. Michael Carrick’s side face a tough trip to Atlético Madrid in the Champions League on 13 October, and four days later the Red Devils will have to take on Leeds at Elland Road in one of their fierce domestic derbies.
