Nine out of nine for Barcelona, but the easy part is over and the hard part begins

Barcelona made it nine wins from nine in all competitions this season with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Getafe in La Liga. Anthony Gordon, Gabriel Jesus and Jules Koundé scored, but Hansi Flick’s side now face a tough run that includes Galatasaray, Betis, PSG and El Clásico.

Anthony Gordon opened the scoring in the second minute with his first goal for the club, helped by a deflection. Gabriel Jesus doubled the lead in the 30th minute, and Jules Koundé added a third in the 73rd, keeping Barcelona’s perfect record intact.

The champions were without top scorer Raphinha, who is recovering from injury. New signing Gabriel Jesus started up front in his first start for the club, while Pedri and Pau Cubarsí were on the bench and Gavi got a starting chance. Joan García returned in goal.

Barcelona dominated from the start. Dani Olmo nearly doubled the lead early on, while captain Eric García forced a save from goalkeeper David Soria with a long-range effort. Getafe’s first threat came in the 26th minute, when Joan García saved from Iván Ason. Jesus then made it 2-0 after capitalising on a mistake by defender Said Romero.

Koundé missed a one-on-one chance before half-time, but made amends in the 73rd minute, finishing from close range after a pass from Lamine Yamal. Yamal could have made it four late on but missed the target.

Most of Barcelona’s wins so far came against modest opponents. Now things change sharply, with away trips to Galatasaray in the Champions League, Betis in the league and PSG in the Champions League, followed by El Clásico against Real Madrid at home on 25 October, all within the next two weeks.

The referee’s report from Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Villarreal says Vinícius Júnior was sent off for pulling an opponent’s hair and then approached the official aggressively, shouting in protest. The incident could bring a ban of more than one game, which would rule him out of the Clásico against Barcelona on 25 October.
